All Things Kiwi
This design contains a few of what I see as the typical New Zealand icons. A sheep; a black shearers singlet; Hokey Pokey icecream; a chocolate fish; a pair of jandals for summer wear; the pukeko or swamp hen; an orange roughy; the cabbage or Ti tree (which looks like something out of a Dr Suess book); the Kiwifruit; and of course, the Kiwi. The stars represent the Southern Cross constellation. And the clouds represent the Maori name for New Zealand (Aotaearoa – Land of the Long White Cloud)

Welcome to our Echinacea Glow kit, using a fabric designed by Anna Marie Horner. The Echinacea Flower is also known as the Cone Flower. The fabric is embellished with two simple stitches and 2 strands of stranded cotton.
You will have enough threads to stitch two flowers of each colour. The 30cm of fabric allows you to stitch a bunch of flowers altogether or a number of single flowers for mounting separately. It is up to you.

Kate Wells is one of New Zealand’s most well known woven tapestry artists.
This design is based one of Kate Wells’ designs for Dilana Rugs.
Wells was born in Foxton and studied textile design at Wellington Polytechnic. She received a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Grant in 1986 that enabled her to travel to Europe to study both early and contemporary tapestries. In 1988 Wells was invited to lecture at an international tapestry symposium in Melbourne and in 1989 she won the Wool Interior Design Award. Many of her works are in public collections
Fantasy Tree Pink Embroidery

I come from South Taranaki where the trees are all windswept in one direction so this is a celebration of the effect of mother nature.
The stitches used are blanket stitch, lazy daisy, split stitch, running stitch and French knots.
In the following set of instructions we have described the threads and stitches that we used in our sample. However, please feel free to use other threads and your favourite stitches. This is freestyle embroidery and by varying the methods you use, your embroidery will become unique.
The outlines of the leaves, branches and trunks are stitched for you to embroider and embellish as you wish. Our sample uses the enclosed scan of the outlines for you to use as patterns for applique, either with felt as in the sample or material.
You could also just stitch them with simple stitching or paint them (we used So Soft fabric paint) and stitch outlines or just unpick the stitching … we would love to see what you will come up with.
