Feeling 40 something, and restless – I up-rooted my family and shifted to Christchurch to spend some time with Tim's family.
As we left our Wellington home I felt a tremendous sadness, and a nervousness about where we were going. This design is in response to that need to have a place to put my things and nuture my family -so… to this house I bring my heart, which makes it home…

Hungarian Floral

I like the exuberance of Hungarian Embroidery, and how many variations you can get from some simple shapes. I first digitized the pomegranate outlines, then started stitching with 8 colours of the Madeira Lana thread. Each flower has every colour in it and no two are the same. This will be the start of something more.
The stitches used are chain stitch, split stitch, French knots, satin stitch, seed stitch and what I am calling bauble stitch for the top of the pomegranates.

Hungarian Rhapsody Embroidery

I like the exuberance of Hungarian Embroidery, and how many variations you can get from some simple shapes.
The stitches used are running stitch, chain stitch, split stitch, French knots, couching, eyelets and fly stitch.
The outlines of the leaves, stems, flowers and pomegranates are stitched for you to embroider and embellish as you wish. Our sample uses the enclosed scan of the outlines for you to use as patterns for applique, either with felt as in the sample or material.
You could also just stitch them with simple stitching or paint them (we used So Soft fabric paint) and stitch outlines or just unpick the stitching … we would love to see what you will come up with.

No Worries
This is my first design that shows a couple together as equal characters! I'm not sure what Freud would make of this missing component for so many years, and it's sudden appearance. Suzani Bird Embroidery

Traditional Suzani Embroidery in Uzbekistan has flourished again since the fall of the Soviet Union. Taking inspirations from a contemporary Suzani, this bird with flowers and leaves has been reinterpreted using crewel embroidery stiches.
The linen/cotton fabric provided in the kit has the design printed on and NZ Made Strand yarn is included in the full kit.
