“Tumbling Triangles is a geometric design inspired by the town houses on the hills surrounding Thorndon. Walking from the train station to work I would often take in the layered roof structures of the houses. I wanted to develop a design that is clean, crisp, with a simplistic colour palette”

Kate Wells is one of New Zealand’s most well known woven tapestry artists.
This design is based one of Kate Wells’ designs for Dilana Rugs.
Wells was born in Foxton and studied textile design at Wellington Polytechnic. She received a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Grant in 1986 that enabled her to travel to Europe to study both early and contemporary tapestries. In 1988 Wells was invited to lecture at an international tapestry symposium in Melbourne and in 1989 she won the Wool Interior Design Award. Many of her works are in public collections

“I am always captivated by the graphic designs on ceramics so when I saw the Elayne Fallon Weston Teapot from Staffordshire Potteries I just had to stitch it. It is so reminiscent of the 1960s and 70s that as I was stitching the cool blue/teal/lime colourway I wondered how it would look in hot red/orange/pink colours.”
